Trading in Kaunas was concentrated in the Town Hall square, where fairs and weekly markets took place. Every day trading took place in a total of four specialist shops and shops with a wider choice in the Town Hall square. The whole territory of the Town Hall square was divided among the tradesmen – butchers, craftsmen, fishmongers, bakers and others had places appointed to them. Order was supervised by the magistrate, who collected taxes and also regulated the prices of the most important food products. Trading outside the Town Hall square was prohibited. Liudas Glemža
