During the nearly 30 years of construction of the main monastery buildings, the friars lived in a modest stone house on the southern side of the presbytery. It is not known whether this building was given together with the land plot, or whether it was built by the friars. However, it can be stated that this building is one of the oldest in Kaunas old town and at the end of the 15th century was incorporated into the Bernardine monastery building. During architectural research, which started in 1983, under the floors of the second floor the remains of the former northern wall were discovered, which were round niches, known as the sun niches. Such decorative elements have been discovered in other older buildings of Kaunas old town as well. On the ground floor, on the western side of the house, fan vaults remain in the corridor. These vaults are the oldest in the monastery ‒ parts of a 17th century mural were found on the vaults.
