The former land plot structure is possibly best researched and rebuilt in this block of Kaunas old town. There were six land plots of different sizes belonging to separate owners. The structure of density of the buildings became stable circa the second half of the 15th century. Up to the middle of the 16th century, wooden houses were built on the site of the contemporary Muitinės Street, further down there were gardening plots and farmyards. The structure of the block's stone buildings that survives until nowadays was created in the beginning of the 17th century when the wooden residential buildings were replaced by two-floor stone buildings (one of the buildings had a hypocaust heating stove). The outstanding feature of the block is the expressive front façades facing the river. This occurrence denotes the importance of the river as the main artery of transport and communication. The block also contains the so-called Napoleon House with its expressive front façade. It is thought that Napoleon stayed in this building while the French army crossed the River Nemunas.
