Mikalojus Daukša Street is one of the oldest streets in Kaunas. The route of this street is closely related to early Kaunas development. The street formed as the outer layer of the primary town nucleus. Most possibly, this formed the eastern boundary of the 15th century town, and, it is possible that there was a wooden wall constructed on the natural slope. It can be assumed that the significance of Mikalojus Daukša Street grew in the 17th century, as it is presumed that from the turn of the 16th-17th century there was a cobblestone road laid in some parts of the street. At the end of the 16th century, the first stone houses were constructed on Mikalojus Daukša Street, although stone houses remained rare.
