This is one of the oldest buildings in Kaunas old town (the other oldest buildings are the Bernardine monastery house, building no. 10 on Aleksoto St., Perkūnas house and a few others); it was constructed in the beginning of the 16th century and reconstructed several times in the same century. During the architectural research conducted in 1964, three stages of how the building was formed in the Gothic time period were determined. During these stages the building was skilfully transformed taking the existing architecture into consideration. Extensive reconstruction was undertaken at the end of the 18th century – the beginning of the 19th century. In 1923 the shape of the roof was changed – premises were established on the second floor, and the roof was lowered.
