Aleksandras Masalskis house is the central feature of the former buildings of the Bernardine convent. The construction of the central convent building, funded by Aleksandras Masalskis, was finished in 1634. The ground floor contained a refectory (dining room) and kitchen, and the first floor contained the rooms of the convent superior. There are cellars under the building with hypocaust type heating equipment ‒ this type of heating is the equivalent of the hot air heating system often found in the larger buildings of Hanseatic union towns, where the heat is supplied to the main reception premises. The central building has the features of the Renaissance era with some Northern Europe mannerism influence.
