The clock of Kaunas Town Hall

Address: Kauno m. sav., Kauno m., Rotušės a. 15

It is not known whether Kaunas Town Hall contained its clock before the reconstruction which took place in the 8th decade of the 18th century. During the reconstruction of the Town Hall, the magistrate decided to purchase the clock for the nearly completed tower of the Town Hall. The clock was delivered together with the bells in 1775 and was installed in the tower in 1776-1777. From 1780, the magistrate hired the supervisor of the Town Hall clock, who wound up the clock, oiled the gears and repaired the clock. The first clockmaker was Teodor Precht (Teodoras Prechtas), who was master of the Kaunas locksmiths' guild.
